What is M@GIC?
Microscopy imaging is an indispensable tool in biomedical research.
At the same time, it is often visually stunning and exists at the intersection of science and art.
At MicRoN, we celebrate and support your cutting-edge, scientifically rigorous, and reproducible imaging. Now, we want to celebrate the gorgeous beauty of your images as well.
We are thrilled to launch M@GIC, MicRoN Annual Gorgeous Image Contest!
A chance for you to submit your most Breathtaking, most Awesome, and most Gorgeous microscopy images and to the title of "M@GIC Winner!".
Interesting... Who Can Participate?
The contest is open to all users of MicRoN (regardless of your Affiliation, Experience level or Topic).
The only criterion is that the images must be acquired by you @ MicRoN.
And what is the Judging Criteria?
This contest will primarily be focused on
Aesthetic Appeal,
Visual Impact
and the “It Factor”.
A blinded panel of judges will consist of MicRoN staff and others from HMS.
I’m excited! Are there Prizes?
You will get the prestigious title: “M@GIC winner!”
Bragging rights over their peers!
Prominent display of their winning images in the halls of NRB and on the MicRoN website/social media channels.
There will be honourable mentions for specialist categories (Funniest most creative title, Most complete acquisition description, Most amusing image, etc)
Sounds great! How do I submit?
Submission guidelines
Must be acquired on any MicRoN microscope.
Must be from the individual who acquired the image.
(AI-generated images are not permitted.)By submitting, you also give MicRoN permission to post the image on our website and or put it up on the MicRoN/NRB walls as art.
A maximum submission of 3 images.
The contest is about the Art in your image. Therefore, you can make modifications (e.g., contrast adjustments, gamma, color balance, LUT application, cropping) to emphasise the aesthetics.
But do not add or remove specific elements in the image (no combining images together).
Each submission must include:
Your name and lab
A compelling title for your image
A brief description of the sample (less than 100 words)
Acquisition details of MicRoN instrument used (objectives, channels etc)
File Format & Size
Submit images as JPEG (or PNG) files
(We know… JPEGs! But it helps us manage the file sizes)File name - <YourLastName_LabName_SubmissionNumber>.jpg
Images should be less than 10Mb in size compressed.

Submit your image by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, Sep 17th.
The Judging period will be between 17th Sep – 1st Oct.
The Results will be announced at MicRoN Open house on 1st Oct.
